Classes and Workshops 2022-2023

Atlantic Woodworks offers a five class traditional woodworking series.  Four one day workshops will cover basic shop skills including tool care and sharpening, working with a table saw, hand cut dovetails and jig making.   These workshops will be followed by our Introduction to Furniture Making Saturday class.  Class size is limited to 6 students.  Sign up online or call the shop 910-603-9542 to register for this series or an individual workshop or class.

Table Saw/Scroll Saw Basic Techniques  

These may be the most versatile tools in your shop.  Learn how to set up and safely operate your saw, make jigs, miters, different blades and their uses.  Learn how to get more work out of your table saw.  One day workshop

Hand Cut Dovetails  

Learn about this ancient joinery technique. Design principles, wood selection and preparation, drawers, case pieces, half blind, through, and sliding dovetails for different applications. One day workshop   

Tool Sharpening 

Bring in your chisels, hand planes and other hand tools and learn to properly clean and sharpen them.  One day workshop

Doll Bed Class

Make an heirloom toy for your favorite young ones while you improve your skills in joinery, jigs and finishing.  Approximate size 20 " x 12".(Coverlet and mattress not included)  Two day class 

Introduction to Furniture Making

Dates to be arranged, call for details

Make a small table while you brush up on the fundamentals including project design, wood selection and preparation, joinery techniques, assembly and finishing.  

4 day class

Bench Time 

Bring your projects in for help with completion or start a new piece of furniture.  Instruction provided for the skills you would like to improve, shop basics to advanced techniques.  We provide your own workbench, power and hand tools, and individual instruction as needed.  Three days 

Saturday School - Shaker Table Class

Build this classic table and learn wood selection and preparation, mortise and tenon and dovetail joinery, drawer construction, and finishing, This class will run 4 Saturdays in a row.  

Chair Repair Class

You know you have one!  Bring that broken chair in and learn to repair it. One day workshop 

Picture Framing

Bring in your artwork and learn to make a picture frame for it.  One day workshop

Bookcase

Make a small bookcase and learn wood selection and preparation, joinery techniques and finishing. Five day class .

Furniture Repair

Bring in your broken piece and learn to repair it.  One day workshop
