About Us

Phil Ledford graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and apprenticed to master furniture maker Kelly Mehler before returning to his home in the mountains of western North Carolina to open his custom furniture studio.  In addition to designing and building furniture for families and interior designers, Phil taught woodworking classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. After moving to the beautiful North Carolina coast Phil's new shop is set up for teaching.

Phil has a deep appreciation for the traditional woodworking education he received.  He started the Atlantic Woodwork School to share his skills with other woodworkers, young and old, beginners and experienced craftspeople.  

We teach woodworking classes because we love what we do!  You will learn traditional skills and practical wood shop techniques in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
