About Our School

You will make beautiful furniture!

Our project designs are classic and elegant.  You will take home a fine piece of furniture to enjoy for years to come.

You'll learn traditional woodworking skills.

Using mortise and tenon joinery, hand cut dovetails and other time tested construction techniques each project will sharpen your skills.  You will also have an opportunity to learn basic and practical skills from beginning to end.

Our classes are small.

With a class size limited to six students we have plenty of time to work with you individually so you get the most from your class.  You'll have your own workbench, a set of hand tools and everything you need is included in the price of your class.

About Us

A teacher with 35 years of furniture making experience

Phil Ledford graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and apprenticed to master furniture maker Kelly Mehler before returning to his home in the mountains of western North Carolina to open his custom furniture studio.  In addition to designing and building furniture for families and interior designers, Phil taught woodworking classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. After moving to the beautiful North Carolina coast Phil's new shop is set up for teaching.

A passion for good design and precision craftsmanship

Phil has a deep appreciation for the traditional woodworking education he received.  He started the Atlantic Woodworks School to share his skills with other woodworkers, young and old, beginners and experienced craftspeople.
